Malaga tourism exceeds expectations in April

Malaga tourism starred in the first quarter of 2016 an increase of 8.3% and left important figures in regard to the number of overnight stays, average stay and hotel occupancy.

It was the first time the tourism sector malagueño reaches as positive figures in the first quarter of the year. According to the National Statistics Institute (INE), from January to April a total of 342,840 tourists stayed and compared to the first quarter of 2015, this sector has experienced an increase of 8.3%.

The behavior of international markets along with the recovery of Spain have been the cause of such an increase. Of 342,840 tourists, 180,717 were tourists from abroad, while 162,123 tourists were Spanish. In the period ranging from January to April, it was observed that 15.3% came over foreigners compared to the same quarter last year and came in the same period 1.5% more Spanish tourists.

The total number of tourists generated a total of 684,715 overnight stays, which represents a 11.8% increase compared to 2015. 684,715 overnight stays, 403,327 were made by foreigners, expressed in percentages represents just over 58%, an 19.1% more than in 2015. the remaining 281,388 were made by Spanish tourists and the increase was 2.8%.

The average occupancy level was 70.03%, representing an increase of 7.2% compared to the months of January to April 2015. The average stay was in two days, which means 3.2 % plus.

Issuers international markets that grew in the first quarter of 2016 were Lithuania (135%), Argentina (68.9%), Turkey (58%), Portugal (49%), Czech Republic (45.4%), Norway (42.8%), United States (41.9%), Ukraine (36.8%), Sweden (33.9%) and the Netherlands (33.1%).

International tourists that most visit the city of Malaga and therefore the most important countries for growth of tourism in Málaga are, in order of importance: United Kingdom (27,792 tourists), Germany (16,698 tourists), France (14,560 tourists), Italy (12,332 tourists) and the Netherlands (11,401 tourists).

Communities that issued more tourists to Malaga in the first quarter of this year were: Andalucía with 74,489 tourists, with 28,842 tourists and Madrid finally, Catalonia with 11,748 tourists.
